Text messaging while driving may soon be a thing of the past here in Kansas.
Kansas house members are considering a bill to ban all devices that would distract drivers from the road. Textaholics will soon have to put their thumbs to rest... the house of transportation committee is sponsoring the measure to ban texting...instant messaging and emailing while driving ...
Texting has experienced a dramatic increase in the last 3 years...and some are doing it at the worst times. A bill that would make texting while driving a moving violation is in the works. Violators would receive warnings in the first year of the ban with a $100 fine taking effect in July 2011.
The bill contains exceptions for GPS and similar navigation systems and for drivers reporting illegal activity to law enforcement officials....
Not only is Kansas cracking down on drivers who text but so is the state of Iowa.....texting while driving is soon to become illegal in Iowa this year.
According to the national conference of state legislatures..19 states and the District of Columbia prohibit texting while driving..Kansas may be next.
