The Sunset Zoo in Manhattan welcomed a brand new chimp 6 days ago and the attention their getting is not going away.

Mom and baby are doing very well but they're not swinging from branch to branch just yet.

There's nothing like a mothers touch...56-year old chimpanzee matriarch Susie delivered a healthy baby almost a week ago and the kids continue to flock to Sunset Zoo to get a closer look.

Susie is the third oldest chimpanzee among association of zoos and aquariums accredited zoos...she has been observed by a veterinary team since her pregnancy was confirmed.

Julian, sunset zoo's sole male chimpanzee, is the father.

In the wild, chimpanzees live 40 – 45 years on average..in captivity 60.
And while this was certainly unexpected staffers and visitors alike are excited to see the new family.

If you'd like to visit Susie and her newborn... they're along the African Forest Trail at Manhattan's Sunset Zoo.
