From Ralph Hipp
It was a surreal experience, even in the newsroom.. listening to the police radios during Live at Five Tuesday. We were hearing the stunning police reports, and facing the reality that Topeka High School was on fire.
Very fortunately, it was only a part of the famed, historic school and the apparent roofing materials fire was completely out some 45 minutes after the first reports came in. It was such a relief to see no smoke coming from the intact bell tower by the time we reported live on the fire at 6:00.
If things had turned out to be much worse, I can't avoid asking the horrible question: what if we had lost Topeka High School in the fire. And one week before the Class of 2012 would have begun their senior year!
Please share your thoughts on this wonderful building which thank God, is still there today. Especially your thoughts if you attended school there. Share your memories, share your thoughts about Tuesday, and raise the roof in praise of this first million-dollar school building built west of the Mississippi. Ralph
