What Does KU Do With Turner Gill?

From Ralph Hipp

KU's finish to the Baylor game reminded me of the Texas Rangers getting (twice) to within one strike of winning Game 6 of the World Series, which would have been for the whole thing.  But they didn't get that final strike to close out the contest, and the Cardinals wrapped it up the next night.  Once you get within a strike of the prize and lose.. it could be years before you get that opportunity again.

Turner Gill, coach of the Jayhawks, very rightly went to 2 at the end of the Baylor game against the awesome RG3 on November 12th.  Down 31-30, the conversion failed and KU had lost another one.  And it could be a very long time before KU has the opportunity to get that close again.

Case in point, KU is back to blowout losses, the 61-7 defeat to Texas A&M on November 19th.

So back to my headline question.  What does KU do with Turner Gill?

Certainly not as wise as an athletic director or football coach, I was still concerned at the start that Turner Gill would be in over his head after a successful stint at Buffalo University.  Showing early promise, he is now showing no progress in making the Jayhawks competitive in this fiercely competitive 10-team league where it's winner take all; no championship game for a while.  And I ask you KU fans, does it really matter if KU is 2-9 or 9-2?  Coach Gill will earn his $6 million dollars under his current contract whether he coaches the games for the next two years, or not.

Is it that he doesn't have the talent on the field?  Should we wait to let him land some quality recruits, and let Gill get his bearings?  Or is this a lost cause that needs to be repaired after the Mizzou game?  I'd appreciate your thoughts on this; we're not in charge but still have our opinions.  And if your opinion includes terminating Turner, who would you hire to replace him?    rh
