The Royals $15 Job Fair

From Ralph Hipp

In the world of community outreach, the Kansas City Royals were on the right track.  Inviting people looking for work to come to the ballpark during the daytime hours for their career job fair.. all this before tonight's game with the Royals hosting the Toronto Blue Jays.

But what set the media off in KC was the Royals admission price for the job fair.. $15 to get in the gate.  Oh, they promise you a ticket to the Friday game with the entry to the job fair.   But charging people, mostly unemployed, fifteen bucks plus $10 for parking for a chance to land a job?  What was their public relations department thinking?

The ticket is cheaper than any you could buy at the gate.  And at least a dozen companies and organizations are represented at the job fair.  But many thought, "why not just let them in the gate, and if they want to buy a $15 ticket, if they have the financial means to spend a little money, let them do it?"

One man asked if he could just pass out his resumes and leave, and they told him no.

No $15, no entry.

Another fan suggested, "why don't the Royals hold a job fair for starting pitchers?"

Touche.

Add some of your comments here.  If there's any news from the career fair with a paid admission, I'll try to update the story for you on Friday.   rh
