In the middle of all that March Madness in the Big Easy, there is another storyline going on which motivated the KU Jayhawks to give their very best last weekend.
This bunch of guys Bill Self molded into a team, T-Rob, Tyshawn, Elijah, Jeff Withey and their Hawk teammates made a valiant effort for a shot at the national championship, but fell short to an awesome Kentucky Wildcats team, 67-59 on Monday night. Just like Anthony Davis, Doron Lamb and their UK teammates, it was the final time those five starters for KU would ever appear on the college court together.
They played Ohio State for KU PRIDE, and as a sendoff to a coach who made it all the way with his 1988 teammates to a Jayhawk National Championship, Danny Manning.
Danny Manning and the Miracles beat Oklahoma in a national championship game -- practically here at home at Kemper Arena two dozen years ago.
And now, Danny can start making his plans to move to Oklahoma to coach the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Men's team. The announcement should be coming on Tuesday.
Please let Danny know, whether it's his phenomenal effort during his playing days.. or his calm and patient wisdom with the guys this year.. how much you appreciate what's he done for KU. Who knows, we may even hear from a K-State fan or two! We don't know if Danny would ever be able to find this and read it, but he'll know your thoughts are with him as he deservingly advances to the ranks of head coaching. Ralph
