The safety tips from police and firefighters for your kids tonight are always worth remembering: they say your child's costume should be fireproof, their eyeholes should allow them to see all the way around.. they should have costumes they won't trip on.. and you should only trick or treat in your neighborhood, or wherever there are people you know.
I've got another one to add in our high tech, sometimes crazy world: Before they toss any candy in there, put their cellphone, up and running, in their trick or treat bag.
The idea is to have your child carry that working cellphone with them (providing they're old enough to trick or treat with friends) so you can track them on your GPS. If you're apprehensive about where they're going, and of course they don't want you tagging along with them, you can tag their location anytime. And let's hope all goes well, but if anything happens to your child, you'd still know their location.
