It was with sadness I learned of the death of Ernest Suess. The 98-year-old was one of the few remaining veterans who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Ernie died last Friday. The good news is his story did not die with him. So many members of his generation were humble to the point of never relating what they experienced during their service - until recently, when they've been prodded by those who realized their eyewitness accounts were vital to understanding this key period in world history.
That's how it came to pass that Ernie's name was passed along to me and I was able to sit down with him last December and capture his account to share with all of you. I share it again today, in honor of a great memeber of our Greatest Generation.
Rest in peace, Ernie!
