Visiting and hosting some of the fun at Cinco de Mayo Saturday, I walked to the other end of Fairlawn Plaza, which is about to become the new home of a long ago departed radio station.
It's about to return, not on the air, but on the internet and mobile phones.. as an oldies station. They're already on with sort of a computerized continuous playlist of songs with local commercials inserted into the computer to play automatically. But they're about to go live from Fairlawn Plaza with DJs who have waited long enough for oldies on internet radio to become the hottest radio show in Topeka.
Louie, Louie.. Les Glenn.. J.D. Nash.. they're waiting not to spin the wax back to back like Wolfman Jack.. but to download the oldies memory card to memory card. A window will be cut out of the wall right next to the Lazy Toad this week, where you can soon watch these guys doing their thing again, and reliving their glory days.
So how can you can connect with them before they go totally live Topeka style?
Go to SHOUTCast Radio on your App Store, then search and enter WREN on the Stations download, even put them on your favorites. Then just crank up the volume on your computer, iPad or iPhone; and enjoy! I've been listening a lot since Saturday afternoon and think that WREN Radio coming back, returning now to be heard around the world with the great oldies is cool, man.. Dig it. rh
