Chiefs vs Big Brother

Yes, it is that time of year again.  Time when to titan square off-- and the fans of each let their voices be heard.

August 23rd marks the first of two dates that Kansas City Chiefs football and its fans battles Big Brother and its fans.  Who loses?  Probably me?

That is because I know that I cannot please everyone in the decision of which programming is on which channel.

We hope that we have done a better job this year telling you when these conflicts occur.  I know one of the biggest complaints we had was we did not let anybody know of the conflict.  That is why we have spent considerable time talking about it on air and on our web channel.

Here is how the decision comes about and what more is different from last year.

We are in the second year of a three year contract to carry Chiefs preseason football when those games are part of the Chiefs' network.  (Last week, we didn't get to carry the Miami Dolphins game against the Chiefs because it belonged to ESPN and not the Chiefs' network).  That contract mandates that the Chiefs games be on Channel 13.

By the way, the Chiefs game tonight starts at 7:30pm.  We are carrying a football preseason special by our sports team to fill the half hour before that time.  I figured no one would be happy to see only a half-hour of Big Brother, then cut it off.  Also, CBS, if we were to attempt to air part of Big Brother, would not allow us to offer it later in the night on a taped-delay basis.

We have tried to promote that we will have the entire CBS lineup on tape delay starting at no earlier than 1:00am on Friday.  Do not set your VCR or DVR for just an hour because this start time may be pushed back because the game takes longer to play.  We recommend that you set it for two hours of recording if you just want Big Brother.  Three hours if you want Big Brother and CSI.  Four hours if you want all three Thursday night programs.

CBS will not allow us to air the programs on tape delay and air them at their normal times on our digital channel 13-2 or Cox cable 676.  I thought that more people would be able to access it via tape delay than LIVE on the digital channel.  That is why your option is to record late tonight at 1am.

You have one additional option.  You can watch entire episodes of programs on CBS after they air in prime time.  Go to  Scroll down the screen to the "CBS Inner tube" section.  Click on it.  The menu will allow you to select Big Brother or any other CBS program that already aired and view it for free.  I do not know how much delay CBS puts in posting these programs to the site after they actually air in prime time.

I hope these choices will best meet everyone's programming wishes.

I would love to hear what you think.  You can post a comment here or write me at
