I had coffee with a friend a couple weeks ago. She'd been keeping up with my tweets and said, "Okay, what gives? No one just hops on the treadmill for seven-and-a-half miles!"

She enjoys running, too, so I told her how Amanda, Amy and I are training for the Kansas Half-Marathon. We swapped stories and challenges, since she went through the same thing last summer and is gearing up for her next one in May.

It's hard to believe that I'm into my sixth week of training and the race is fast approaching - April 18th is the big day in Lawrence! It's great being able to check in with Amanda and Amy to see how they're doing. It keeps me motivated to stick with my workouts so we can make it to the finish line together.

If you're interested in how my workouts are going, I'm keeping a weekly tally at www.wibw.com/running. One thing that's surprised me is how adding one long run a week, and adding distance to that run each week, has quickly made my total mileage add up. I can't believe I logged just over 75 miles for the month of February! That's not a lot for many runners, but it's huge for me!

I'm also learning a lot about time management, planning and scheduling when it comes to fitting in a workout. Having a goal makes me put a priority on it. I'd love to hear any advice you might have for squeezing it into your lives!

With Spring arriving, how about setting your own goal? It could be as simple as walking a 5k. If you're looking for one, check the calendar on www.wibw.com/running. The 2-mile or 10-mile Run for Life is coming up in April, and the 5K Run for Ronald run/walk is in May.

Happy trails!

Keep up the good work! Finishing 13.1 miles will be a great accomplishment! Enjoy these last fews weeks of training before the big day! I will be thinking of you while I am running my 13 miles here in Oshkosh.

RESPONSE: That's right, it's the same day, isn't it? I'm sure you'll finish up a lot more quickly than I will!
