One Hundred years ago today, February 8th, 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was founded by a man named W. D. Boyce.  Since the inception of The Boy Scouts of America over 100 million American boys have participated in the program and over 2 million have attained scouting's highs rank, Eagle Scout.  I, myself, am a proud Eagle Scout.  I earned my Eagle Scout in the summer of 2000, hard to believe that was almost 10 years ago.  Scouting is an excellent organization that I think all boys should at least have a chance to participate in.  Though scouts, boys learn how to become better people and better citizens in their communities.  I honestly believe that the more Eagle Scouts in a community, the better off that community will be.  Through earning merit badges, going on camp-outs and other outdoor adventures, and completing service projects, scouting teaches America's boys life skills and leadership qualities that will assist them for the rest of their lives.

My favorite stat about Eagle Scouts is - There has never been a man to walk on the moon who was not an Eagle Scout.  Now that's some food for thought.

My favorite scouting experience would have to be summer camp each year.  I was a scout in the Heart of America Council in Kansas City so we attended summer camp at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation on Truman Lake, SE of Kansas City.  I spent about 10 years at this camp and would not trade those days for the world.  I also remember when I got to hike Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.  We spent 10 nights in the Rocky Mountains, hiking more than 50 miles and doing all sorts of activities.  Scouting gives boys experiences that they would have otherwise never had.
