It sounds funny to say, but coming back to work after over a week off is kinda nice.  We've been working on an addition to the house since summer.....and it's been a long six months.

Yes, I could have hired someone to do the concrete, framing, electrical, drywall, and finish work, but that's just not me.  I suppose you could call me Norm from This Old House, or you could just call me cheap.  Whatever the title, I'm about ready to relinquish it.

Long hours attaching new rafters to old ones in dusty dark places takes a toll.  I've had several colds that I attribute to the tons of dust I've inhaled.

But an end is in sight.  The city inspectors have been very helpful in answering questions and giving us guidelines, and my family continues to show up to help the wife and I lift windows in place.  When the last nail is in place, we hope to have a new space that we will enjoy for years to come.  For now, I'll just enjoy sitting at my computer at work....breathing clean air!

Here's a look at a little of the project:

4" of rain fell right after we dug the footings...creating a mess!   Weather cleared...concrete poured...framing started.

Brother in law checking my work for square.                                             Outside all framed in.

Lots of work to do inside.                                                    Wife's second favorite window.

How about some updated photos, Doug & Mel? Know you've made great headway! Agree ~ Gorgeous window!

RESPONSE: The table saw accident slowed progress....but we are at it again now!

Looks like you know what you're doing... That's some quality craftsmanship!.....RESPONSE: Thank you Mr. Chuvney. My main goal is to keep from embarrassing the neighborhood.....would not want to do that!

Remodeling as in this add-on is very tedious and hard work. My daughter in DC area had hers done as neither one was handy to do it. Still, it took several months. As for the wife being the bargain shopper, yes, my daughter did the same. The real scarry part of it was when they were getting theirs done, she was out shopping when that pair of snipers were running rampart and one of the women was killed where my d. did some of her shopping! All in all, it is a beautiful new space both up and down and even I can enjoy it when I go back for visits. Enjoy it most when it is all done and you can both relax in it!!.....RESPONSE: I really enjoy building things.....but a new dog house might have been a better choice. We will have fun when it is done, though.

Good Job!!! It looks really nice. I will be really neat. I love the window too. RESPONSE: The wife is a great bargain shopper. She paid less for that window and a giant version of it than I did for some plain ones.
