I was given my first assignment to go to Fort Riley since the mishap with the Fort Riley Band (see previous Blog). I was told there was competition going on involving "Hand to Hand" combat. Little did I know that I would be walking into >>>>>>
ULTIMATE FIGHTING- Soldier Style!!!
There inside a big building was a ring surrounded by a chain-linked fence. There were bleachers filled with families and soldiers wrapped around the ring..... Strange : |
When I was told the assignment would be hand to hand fighting with soldiers, I just assumed we would be outside in the hot temps and soldiers going at it with their weapons... Not quite.
These guys (and gals) went at it just like they do on late night TV. I wondered what the heck was this all about and how this would help our soldiers in battle. I was told that there may be a time the soldier is separated from his weapons and thus all you may have to save your life is your basic instinct to survive which may mean using your fist.
Make sense to me. Rock on Soldiers!
I am happy to say there was no skydiving mishaps on this day.
