What a day I had at Fort Riley! I was there to video a change of command at the Fort but in the process the band got plowed into by a skydiver.
There were two skydivers and I thought when the first one came down- that he sure was coming in at a crazy speed... But he looked fine as he touched down. That being said I assumed the second skydiver would come in from the same direction BUT NOOOOO.
I "heard" the skydiver come in and it sounded like a plane (if you listen to the video). I swung the camera around just in time to see the skydiver plow through the tuba players. One of the lady band members was knocked unconscious. Two others were taken to the hospital.
I talked to the skydiver afterwords and he said the flag and cords got tangled and that is why he was having trouble steering.
When this happened, I was trying to get a shot of the skydiver coming in for a landing.... BUT when the band and tubas (a coworker tells me the instruments were actually Sousaphones) were being knocked down- My thoughts were....Is this really happening???
As photogs.... we LIVE for people seeing and enjoying the video we shoot..... A coworker tells me that our web channel has had OVER 100,000 views through out the country on this story.
Kinda Cool !!!
