I remember when I was a piano teacher I thought it was a good idea to start having report cards. I remember when I was a piano teacher I almost lost my clientele because I thought it was a good idea to start having report cards.
The first and last time I handed out report cards students that in school that were getting 5/5 starts, 4.0's and all A's in my class were getting 3/5, 2.0's and C's.
I figure everyone is average and you need to dazzle me, go above and beyond and prove you are above that mark.
This flash back happened because I sit at my desk starring at 20 applicants for the 4-H fair King & Queen for Shawnee Co. I was asked to judge this years candidates. Yikes.
I am in the preliminary scoring round and so far same problem, lots of 50/100, 60/100. Every section is worth 10pts. I keep handing out 3's, 4's, 5's and an occasional 6. I am brutal when it comes to the community service section and even worse when it comes to the written essay.
At first thought these are kids, second thought they are kids who want to represent the entire county for 4-H. Am I being too tough? Or is it justified.
I can't wait to hear the responses on this!!
