Country Stampede....My Experiences
Drew Switzer reviews his time at the Country Stampede in Manhattan, Kansas over the weekend. He saw Teri Clark, Taylor Swift, Rascal Flats, Charlie Daniels and Rodney Atkins perform.
Country Stampede is a summer staple at Tuttle Creek State Park near Manhattan, but this was the first year I was able to attend. I have always heard good things about it, and after spending Saturday and Sunday there I was more then impressed. To say I had a fun time would be an understatement.
Saturday I arrived just in time to watch Terri Clark. She has been a country singer since 1994. That means she has 14 years of music, and I recognized nearly every song she played. I did the weather for WIBW News live from the stampede at 6:00pm and then Jeremy Goodwin made me stay out there the rest of the night. I got to see Taylor Swift and Rascal Flats. They both put on great shows and the record crowds were very enthusiastic.
Sunday I was back out there in time to see Charlie Daniels take the stage. To good folks at 94.5 country hooked myself and Rae Chelle Davis up with back stage passes to sit on the stage during Charlie Daniels. It was really cool to see all the inter-workings of the back stage workers. I also saw Charlie Daniels' drink of choice during his show. You would think he would have a drink of whiskey or something but he had a glass of red wine about halfway through his set. Then we spotted Rodney Atkins, who was going to be the next performer, and got him to agree to an interview during the 5:30 newscast. He showed up at 6:02 just after the news had ended, but he invited us back to his bus to do a taped interview with aired on the 10:00 news. He then took the stage and was followed by Josh Turner. We had to leave halfway through Rodney Atkins to get back and do the 10:00 news which was a little bummer but I had seen plenty to keep me happy.
As far as I could tell everyone seemed well behaved and everyone was enjoying themselves. If you didn't get a chance to go to the Stampede this year, make plans to attend next year. I promise, you will not be disappointed.
So what was your experience like this year at the Stampede? good? bad? Ugly? Tell me your story!
