Wonderful World of Widgets

Now, you can place wibw.com headlines right on your screen, free from your browser or any other window. You can select all headlines you want: local, national, sports, weather, and there's more to come, including blogs. To be sure you can still place the widget onto your Web page.

We've had them for a while now, so why am I bringing up our widgets. Because I have a blog quota and I don't want to get fired.

Seriously, we never promoted them much when they were first introduced and they kind of fell to the wayside while we focused on other projects (e.g. the redesign, micro-blogging, and live-blogging). But I think overall they are one of our coolest features and one of the most convenient ways to keep up on all the days headlines.

On of the most important features which we wanted for our widgets were for them to display on the desktop as well as on a Web page. There are many options for producing widgets that will appear only on Web pages, but to get them from your browser to your desktop is a whole new trick.

Fortunately, working with Spring widgets, we were able to do just that. Now, you can place wibw.com headlines right on your screen, free from your browser or any other window. You can select all headlines you want: local, national, sports, weather, and there's more to come, including blogs. To be sure you can still place the widget onto your Web page.

To access our widgets just click on... wait for it... "Widgets" in the red bar at the top of our screen, find the widget you'd like, and click "Get Widget." That will take you to a page where you can download the widget. Click "Get this Widget" and a screen will appear with all the options on how you can download the widget, from the raw code to over twenty shortcuts for services like Facebook and Blogger.

Or, if you click on the code in the upper left of those choices, you can download the program which will allow you to run our widgets on your desktop. After you install the new program, you will find even more features beside our headlines, which will be housed in the RSS Reader, including a desktop clock and an NFL game tracker, which will come in handy this fall.

Check it out. It's really much easier than I'm sure I made it seem, and its an easy way to keep up on headlines without always going back to our Web site.
