SSG 10k Training Log: Going the Distance

A quick update on my preparations for the Sunflower State Games and my first 10k. As my friend, Tony Estes with Fitness in Training, recommended, I put in a six-mile run Saturday. I chose some hilly dirt roads in Jefferson County, adding the distance to my usual five-mile route. I handled it all right. In fact, Doug thought I finished more quickly than expected - not that I was trying. My legs were a bit fatigued Sunday, but not too bad. I did take it as an off day, following Tony's advice. Monday I put in a little less than four miles; Tuesday I cleared brush to celebrate our anniversary (!); Wednesday, I ran a little more than four miles, and today (Thursday) I did just about two and a half miles in hilly laps with the dogs. I'm not sure what Friday will hold - I might take it as an off day, because I'm on track to try for a seven-miler this weekend. Wish me luck!
