Yesterday my girlfriend and I visited the Topeka Zoo.  You might be thinking...zoo?...January?  Yes, we were trying to think of something to do and it came to mind.  First we had to check the hours and sure enough, they are open from 9-5 daily.  Being as cold as it was, we spent more time in the rainforest habitat than any other, but still found some creatures outside.  It was a great time and was only $5 for several hours of fun.  It's also a great way to support the zoo during the down time of the year.  The best part though?  We only saw 1 other person the whole time we were there!  Here are some photos that Lexy and I took.....

This hippo was less than a foot away from the camera lens.

My daughter's birthday is in February and it's always hard to come up with something unique to do. One year I reserved a birthday party at the Sunset Zoo in Manhattan. It was very cold and snowed that day but everyone had a great time. You're right, one of the best parts is that there wasn't many people there. So it felt we had the whole zoo to our selves. So, yes visiting the zoo during the winter maybe crazy, but well worth it!

Darin, Nice pics! I haven't been there since I was a child growing up in Rossville. Last time I went I took my camera and enjoyed it immensely. Glad to see people still support the local zoo. Is there still a train across the street for kids to ride? Are those concrete play "things" still inside the fenced area near the train loading spot? Hope you enjoyed those with your friend. I enjoy your blog entries since they are usually something of interest to me.
