Brett Favre is retired.... right? Growing up in Minnesota, I have been encouraged to cheer for the Minnesota Vikings. My parents are big Vikings fans and we used to go to games at the Metradome, decked out in purple and gold. Going to school in Wisconsin, if you weren't wearing red and white, you were wearing green and gold. Everyone is live-or-die Packer fans the Wisco, in fact, the day Favre announced his first offical (second actual) retirement, some of my guy friends literally didn't talk for a week they were so depressed. The Vikings vs. Packers game has always been a HUGE rivalry- kind of like the Gophers vs. Badgers. To be honest, Favre's meeting with Childress and a "potential" return from retirement to the Vikings doesn't suprise me at all. Especially since he wanted to play for Minnesota last season, but could not after Green Bay specifically eliminated their NFC North rivals as an option for Favre. It will be interesting to see what happens- especially since one of the reasons he supposedly retired was due to a partially torn bicep in his throwing arm late last season. In my opinion, Brett Favre is a legend, not only in the state of Wisconsin, but everywhere. But I feel like his continuous cycle of "I retire.... Just kidding" has even his most loyal fans annoyed. What do you think? Do you think Favre will come out of retirement (again) wearing a purple #4? Would you like to see him return?

Amy, I have been a Brett Favre fan forever, not just as a quarterback, but as a man. He has always seemed to me to be the least effected by his fame of any of the truly great quarterbacks. I've also been a life long Packer fan when they weren't playing the Chiefs. I couldn't care less if he donned a Vikings uniform. He doesn't owe the Packers fans anything. He gave them everything he had when he played for them. Unfortunately, I think that though the mind is willing, the body is no longer able to deliver. I think another season would be a disappointment for Brett and his fans. Stay in retirement Brett and let us remember the glory days. Posted by: Jake Location: Topeka The same! Didn't realize you were an alum when I made the post. Wow, what's more coincidental: The same college, the same graduation, or both remembering the Brett Favre guy? Posted by: Jake Location: Topeka I went to the University of Wisconsin and got a first hand look at how fanatical people were about Favre. Heck, a guy at my graduation accepted his diploma under the name "Brett Favre." I'm so glad he officially called it quits. In the future, people will forget he ever played for the Jets. Playing for the Vikings, though....that would have been unforgivable. RESPONSE: Jake- that was my graduation ceremony as well! May of 2008?? Posted by: Bill Location: Topeka Growing up in South Dakota 2 miles from the MN boarder I have always been a Viking fan through all the thick and thin. He needs to go away and let the team live with what Childress stuck them with. GET RID OF CHILDRESS AND THE NOTION OF FAVRE AS THE SAVIOR. Posted by: Tif Location: Lyndon Ks He better not. He should of stayed retired in the first place. He rocked back in the day but now I am tired of seeing him. Go Packers!!!!!!!!! :) Posted by: David Location: Topeka As a Minnesota native myself (from Minneapolis though :) ) and a resident of Topeka for 8 out of the last 15 years, I share your views Amy. And also as a diehard Vikings fan, I'm okay with Favre returning. Sure, I despised him for years as a Packer, but I always respected him. What he's done lately is kind of crazy and I understand the Packers' fans angst, but I do believe that they should just get over it and move on. Posted by: Geordan Location: Topeka Kansas I Have Family In Minnesota Me & My Mom Are Patriots Fan, My Brother Is A Green Bay Fan, I'm A Fave Fan, Posted by: Billy Bob Location: St. marys Amy your so hot. Having you talk football just makes you my future wife. Will you marry me :) Posted by: adam Location: st.marys how do you like your job---- RESONSE: I LOVE IT! WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? :) Posted by: Matt Location: Topeka Favre left Green Bay at a good time...Da Bears FINALLY seemed to have his number his last few years...was great seeing them rough him up....GO BEARS!!! Would love to see him join the viqueens...he'll take minnesota down with him.....he loses more games for a team nowadays then he wins... Posted by: JC Location: Topeka Farve was exciting to to watch playing. While more than likely still capable of playing his ego is effecting his choices. The Iron man is no longer the iron man, hes the tin man and his insistence to continue can do nothing but erode his legacy. He is one of those that does not know when to quit and that is the shame. Posted by: Greg Location: Tecumseh Growing up in WI and have lived around the nation, I've always been first a die hard Packer fan and second a Brett Favre fan. His retire / comeback saga has worn thin and if he comes back from retirement, yet again and especially to the Viqueens, I will retire my Favre jersy for good, if not burn it. The only reason he wants back in with the Queens is so he can try and stick it to tight wad Ted. As you can tell, I'm not a fan of TT but that's another story. Brett's Packer legacy will be severly tarnished if he plays for MN. He can expect a chilly reception from the Packer faithful in the confines of Lambeau field. I hope he stays retired...Brett don't make me burn your jersey! Go PACK. New 3-4 D will rock and AR will have another good year. Posted by: Brenda Location: Skiddy I have lived in Kansas most of my life but was born in Minnesota and I am a Vikings fan. While I don't care if Favre comes and goes out of retirement I definitely don't want to see him in a Vikings uniform! He could even play for the Chiefs and I wouldn't care just as long as it's not the purple uniform. Posted by: mike Location: topeka Ok..when I count to three, I will snap my fingers and you all will wake up!! One....twooo..THREE!!! See it was just a baaadd dream Amy....lol Posted by: kyle Location: Junction City As much as i love watching Brett Favre play football. I think at his age and the torn bicep thats hard to over come for a quarterback more so than other positions i think he is done. But then again MJ retired three times came back out twice so who knows. Posted by: Jake stay in retirement Posted by: Bob Location: Topeka Amy, I lived through the four Super Bowl losses while in high school and college. 1999 brought the Vikes closer than ever with Randall Cunningham, Randy Moss, Cris Carter and Robert Smith, losing out by not just a missed field goal but by Brian Billick's play calling in the first half, giving away a touch down. Could Brett be the answer to complete the process? If he comes back with a win win attitude, yes. Revenge is never a good focal point. No one wins there. Posted by: Paul Location: Cleveland, MN Amy, you know as well as I do that Favre would look very good in purple! And IF it does happen?? Vikes fans can make reservations in Miami in Feburary!! Posted by: Jake So ya. Considering I watched the whole Killers concert at The Rave with Tauscher, Clifton, Crosby, and Rogers, I've got somewhat of skewed opinion these days. Who Favre was in the locker room and who he was as a person during the tail end of his packers career were illustrated to me by Wisconsin's own Mark Tauscher. Rogers made no comment, but Tauscher was livid and I sensed betrayal. I don't think it was just him either. Most of his ex-teammates felt this way.(or so I think) I have a slight distaste for Brett at the moment. Reason being is the total disregard for people that truly love this man. You can't know unless you're from Wisco. To put on a purple uniform is a true sin. Almost adulterous. Everything Brett stands for, everything his skill and prowess embody appeal to any die hard football fan; however, his constant indecision caters to the media and these endless gossip circles. If you want to play, play. Just for the love of god don't play for anyone in the North Division. Posted by: Jayme Location: Topeka, KS I love football and when I see brett play im just amazed...I would love to see him come back and play..even though the "I'm retireing..not" is getting a little old. But GO Brett! Posted by: Leto Location: Madison, WI I laughed the other day when an ESPN announcer stated that if Favre played for the Vikings that Packer fans would still cheer for him when he ran on the field. I don't know what fans he knows, cause any true Packer fan would boo Jesus himself if he were in Purple and Gold. Posted by: David Simonsen Location: Wausau, WI Though Favre is a great athlete and arguably one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game, it is easy to say that his legacy as a football player and a man who the 'average Joe' can relate to has been tarnished by his recent actions. Favre was commercially appealing because he closed the separation gap between the couch potato who dreamed of playing in the NFL and the men who take to the gridiron at the highest level. Actions like this take away from the human normalcy that was always associated with Brett. Though nobody can predict Favre's next move, two things will remain certain...I will be a fan of Wrangler jeans for the rest of my life and as soon as I can grow some decent stubble and rock a buzz cut like Favre, I will. Posted by: Matt Location: Madison, WI The legacy dies if he wears purple. I mean I would go from loving him like a brother to hating him. In my opinion if Favre plays for the Vikings I would not only be extremely upset, but growing up in Wisconsin I would be a little hurt by it. Posted by: Cory Location: Manhattan I hope he doesn't sign with the Vikings or anybody else. He needs to retire and go about doing something else, whether its a form of coaching or just going off somewhere else, he needs to hang it up for good. He was good and I respected him even though I'm not a Packers fan. But after last year, retiring, then changing his mind and signing with the jets made me lose some respect for him. I can't wait for him to be done done. Posted by: Jeff Block Location: Madison, WI I'm so confused. These rumors need to clear because I can't function right now. It's like your girlfriend dumping you for some guy that killed your family. As you can tell I love Brett Favre and hate the Vikings. I'm at a loss. Oh yeah..... I'm one of those guys who went into shutdown mode when Favre retired. Posted by: Jeff Location: Manhattan I agree Amy that it is annoying what he has been doing. I can't blame a guy for loving the game so much, but it gets to the point where its like, does he really love the game or is he just loving the attention he is getting? The more and more I hear about him, the more I think he loves getting attention. It is getting close to him hurting the great image he once had. I think people have had enough of hearing his name in the news, I know I sure have. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went to Minnesota. If I was a Packers fan, this would peeve me off a little, wouldn't you say? Is there no loyalty in sports any more? Posted by: Ryan Location: Denver Favre unretires and suprises nobody. I’m thinking he only went to the Jets just to have a route to get to the vikings, since Green Bay wouldn’t let him go there, he took the indirect route. One big master plan to get revenge. That being said, he’s a good fit for the Viqueens. He’s familiar with the system, know the offensive coordinator, and there is a leadership void there. I think it would give the ‘queens the best chance to win…way better than T-Jack or Rosenfels anyway. As a packers fan, this doesn’t bother me one bit, however. Green Bay’s improved defense will shut him down. Cant wait for NFL season And with that, i'll leave you this. The Brett Favre Boogie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlXZqJ99AKU |
