According to a survey by TheLadders.com, US bosses find the most punishable offense in an office environment is cursing.  More than 81% of the executives polled, said an employee with a foul-mouth was unacceptable.  Six percent have actually fired an employee for swearing on the job.  Some of the other things that are no-no's in the office...personal calls, loud talking, and revealing clothing.  What do some of your co-workers do that stretches the boundaries of office etiquette?

Trash-talking on other employees as soon as that employee is out of ear shot. And then when others join in on the bashing. Not constructive or having a positive work environment. Where's the supervisor!!!

People just hanging around when there are calls/customers coming in, and doing homework, etc when we should be working. How unprofessional and lazy!! Not to mention annoying to those who do all the work for them!!

What a trooper - spending 10 hours at the Topeka Railroad Festival this past Saturday. What a great job of representing your personal character.

Walking around in a breakroom/kitchenette with a bluetooth hanging from thier ear talking away practically right in your ear and then becoming really annoyed if you answer them or respond to something they say mistakenly thinking they were talking to you. And I mean they can be really mean with their response! If you are in a group area talking outloud what do they expect? Jeez.

I was told as a young boy that swear words were what ignorant people used when they weren't creative enough to think of a proper word or phase. A word in hast will often come back to bite you. We all need to think about what we say, understand that words can hurt or uplift. The choice is up to you.

My wife works for a local bank, and in her department, they have brought in a "cuss jar". If you drop a bomb, you have to donate a quarter. Looks like it's time to invest in a roll !

rhere's nothing wrong with letting the occasional swear word slip ,it happens and is a bit humorous , it's when the words flow much of the time is when it becomes a nuisance and annoying to me.

I work in a doctor's office. The things already mentioned bother me. Also, discussing personal family issues where patients can hear and eating at the check in area (or anywhere) where patients can see the staff.

Swearing is the most offensive thing here. It has cut down alot since I started here but it still happens. Of course it is a construction business. But I don't allow it in my office. It happens in the bosses office. I can't stop that. The firing of people here is usuall because they don't want to work or use they cell phone too much during work time. Cell phones are a big problem in the work place here anyway. Rob's Response: I can see where a cell would get people in trouble! Thanks for the response!

My supervisor gets on personal phone calls and fights with her husband loud enough to make everyone in the office uncomfortable...and then gets on us for having personal phone calls! Rob's Response: That must be hard to take sometimes! Thanks for the response!
