From Ralph Hipp
Well, December and Christmastime are here, and with it brings the sounds of the holiday season on the radio. Topeka has many fine radio stations which don't really change things around too much. That's why this season, you'll be hearing holiday music on KMAJ, Majic 107.7 again this month.
KTPK's newest addition, program director Robb Rose (taking the job once held by our esteemed Chris Fisher) reminds me that Country Legends 106.9 will devote an entire 24 hours to Christmas music from 6pm Christmas Eve till 6pm Christmas night.
Now to Kansas City, where holiday music has been moved all around. Since last Christmas, KUDL and Star 102 have changed their formats.
KUDL (98.1, still very hearable in Topeka) is now duplicating the news and talk show programming of 980 KMBZ on its FM station. So they won't be doing any music of any kind this year. And Star 102 early this year, changed to Alice 102, so they will be sticking with the music they normally play on the air. So where did they move my music?
KFKF, one of the longtime country giants in Kansas City, is now promoting itself as "your official home for Christmas Music.." and you'll find them going wall-to-wall at 94.1. They include a lot of country Christmas songs, more than the other stations did. And since KUDL doesn't play its soft rock anymore, that format has moved over to "The Point," (99.7 on FM) and they are promising to provide us with plenty of holiday tunes as well.
So that's 94.1 and 99.7, instead of 98.1 and 102.1; ho, ho, ho! I hope that clears up any confusion you may have! Ralph
