I've been known to brag about "Good Kids" for the past ten years, but this time I'm heading in the other direction with a few thoughts about "Rude Kids" after a chat with some grownups who reported these cases to me.
A woman asked me if I had seen New England Patriots star player Chad Ochocinco's post on his Facebook page this week. #85 is upset that his daughter was suspended from school for a day. A teacher asked why Chad's daughter was late to class. She replied, "what do you care? You're still getting paid anyway." Suspension. Chad thought she should have gotten detention.
Can you imagine what our mom or dad would have done to us if we said that to one of our teachers?
And Ochocinco thought the suspension was too much. He is way in the stratosphere on Facebook with more than 58,000 friends and 17,000 comments about this incident.
The woman who cut my hair this week (that's at Great Clips, btw.. a viewer called to ask where I get my hair cut..) told me a little boy was offered a sucker after his haircut there last week. He pointed to the lollipop and ordered his parents to give him "that one." He pointed, and pointed until he got his sucker. I think the dad was the sucker. He told the woman, "oh, we always have him point to what he wants so we can hand it to him."
Oh, I am SO not down with that. Pointing and demanding is trouble on a stick, and in this case it had a lollipop attached to it. That will only turn into bigger problems later on, don't you think?
Hey, talk to me about these two kids.. and share some of your thoughts on parenting polite children!
