From Ralph Hipp
Andy Griffith is being remembered today as a television icon of the 60s, a fine film actor and performing comedian in his early days. His career spanned more than a half-century! Remember his little 45rpm record, "What It Was, Was Football?" Where he'd seen his first football game, not knowing what it was? His cornpone humor was a big step toward him landing what remains his finest film role, "A Face In the Crowd," with Patricia Neal.
Then it wasn't long before Danny Thomas cast Andy Griffith as a sheriff in Mayberry, North Carolina who pulled Danny over on a speeding violation. It was the quick spinoff to Andy's own show, and television immortality.
Once a sheriff, he became a wise and crafty Atlanta attorney in "Matlock," which only made us think of him again.. as Andy Taylor of Mayberry.
So on his passing today, I'm asking about your favorite episode "Andy Griffith Show" episode! Mine is where Opie shot and killed a bird with his slingshot. The beautifully written episode showed us the consequences of (our) Opie's actions in causing the death of another living creature. Raising the bird's baby to maturity, Opie learns the responsibility of caring for another creature, caring for the little bird until he is able to fly away on his own. As with all the episodes, Andy was the man carefully guiding the person featured in the episode until they also learned their self-worth.
I think that's why we'll miss Andy so much. Tell us if that's your favorite one too.. or if you have another one!
