Sheila and I decided to go to the movies to celebrate our anniversary, you know an actual movie, even though we like the DVR On Demand movies we can watch at home. I asked her if we could see "Bridesmaids" since I like Kristin Wiig on Saturday Night Live. So off we went. That's what gave me the idea to do Previews and Reviews once in a while. Not that I'm Joe Zima or anything.
So here goes.
While I think Kristin Wiig may be the Carol Burnett of our TV generation, I didn't think she pulled off the whole movie thing. Most of the movie shows her as the hopelessly depressed former bakery shop owner who's asked to be the maid of honor for her best friend Lillian (played by SNL alum Maya Rudolph.) Her tirades are out of proportion to the situations, lashing out at the wealthy wedding planning groom's sister she's supposed to be working with. Other than four funny scenes in the whole film, I would rank this in the stinker and clinker category to save your money on.. and hopefully, you can join me in recommending some movies we SHOULD spend our money to see this summer.
Now to the Previews part.
Since there were at least 15 movie trailers before "Bridesmaids" came on, I thought we could share some thoughts on some of the really cool previews of what we should see in late June or July. I liked the preview for "Green Lantern," I think Ryan Reynolds will be awesome in that..
"Larry Crowne" stars Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, though this will certainly not be another "Forrest Gump." And watch for "Super 8," Steven Spielberg's latest director effort written by J.J. Abrams. I can't wait to see what that kid filmed with his camera. Now it's your turn.. a movie review and tell us what previews look cool to you! rh
