From Ralph Hipp
I wanted to give Topekans a chance to sound off on the announcement I heard "On the Other Hand" with Raubin and Megan on their program Wednesday. With help from a loud sound effect, Megan's head exploded when Raubin opened and read an invitation to a farewell reception for outgoing City Manager Norton Bonaparte. It's June 30th in the lobby of TPAC. Some of the sponsor's or group's name read out were The Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Topeka, United Way and a few others.
The radio hosts were fairly agitated about:
1. The termination agreement paying Bonaparte $100,000 to leave.
2. The hesitance Bonaparte showed in cooperating with the Council on the scrap metal theft and the reported involvement of the four Water Department employees who said they took it.
3. Why the groups were holding this reception, since Bonaparte isn't really leaving for a better job.
What do you think? Is it not that big a deal to throw a going away party for the man who was Topeka's 1st City Manager? Or is this absolutely turning the situation upside down for a fired city administrator? I can't wait to read your thoughts on the "Bonaparty." rh
