Life on TV, After Oprah

From Ralph Hipp

Oprah Winfrey was still on TV today, in the form in which she will now appear.. in reruns.  Her final original show aired on KSNT Wednesday afternoon.  Now that Oprah's departing the TV scene to operate her OWN Network and O Magazine, what does the daytime talk show landscape look like now?

I noticed a couple of items in USA TODAY with interest.  Anderson Cooper's picture was prominently featured in an article about DAO (Daytime After Oprah).  The hugely popular CNN anchor and evening show host will have his own daytime hour this fall.  The other item that surprised me, is that Katie Couric (after bailing on the CBS Evening News with its low ratings) won't be hosting her daytime talker for another year!  She's set to debut in the fall of 2012.

And this note.. Nancy Grace has told producers she does not want to move to California (lots of us in Kansas can't say we blame her..) to host another season of "Swift Justice."  That assignment now goes to Judge Jackie Smith, who will host the 2nd season of the show this September.  We may carrying that new show for a while.

Almost on the scale of Johnny Carson, there will be plenty of people who want to give the hour-long syndicated daytime talk show a whirl.  What are your opinions about Katie Couric with her own show, and Anderson Cooper moving to daytime, too?  What star do you really like so much that you would watch their new show.  Give us some suggestions!  (And I'll be in my familiar spot at 4:00 with our local guests this fall, too.)      Ralph
