It's a Bird, It's a Plane.. No, It's a Missile!

By Ralph Hipp

I was moderately interested at first.. a Los Angeles news crew videographer shot video of what appeared to be a missile being fired 35 miles off the coast of California earlier this week.  Now that he had the video, the station went out to get answers.  Who fired it?  Is it military, and what is the Pentagon saying?  Well, what the Pentagon said today is.. "It's not one of ours!"  Then I became very interested in what's going on with this.  (I'm showing you one frame of the video here.)

The defense brass claimed today the photographer shot video of the huge vapor contrail from a jetliner.  What do you think this is?

Callers to "On the Other Hand" had their own opinions on 580 today.  I heard them give theories that the missile may have been test fired by members of a Mexican drug cartel, or Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez's military men.  Now that is scary.  Others thought the Pentagon was covering up a submarine test firing in the ocean.

I still think the missile is a test launch for the new Topeka Missile Transport Authority, before it would also become a city department.  I'll get with Bob Archer for his reaction.  Think of the transportation Topeka could do with that!

I also think after last night's "Broken Arrow" missing nuclear missile episode of NCIS, that Jethro Gibbs, Dinozzo, Ziva David and McGeek should "launch" an immediate investigation on this, and do an entire episode of where this may have come from. Exciting stuff!

So what's your theory.. where do you think this California coastal missile launch originated?  Stay tuned to CBS Evening News.  I'm sure they'll be talking about it, and showing the video again, too.   Ralph
