From Ralph Hipp
Endeavour is in space after a super launch Monday morning, and the out of this world love story of wounded Congresswomen Gabrielle Giffords and NASA Shuttle Commander Mark Kelly returned to the headlines this week after the launch was delayed in late April.
I admire them both so much for their personal bravery and the work they do in two completely different careers. We have seen quite a bit of Mark Kelly, being interviewed extensively and talking about either about his wife's recovery or the shuttle mission.
But I have to ask, why can't we see her?
I think not showing video or even photographs of a waving or smiling Gabrielle Giffords gives us the impression that she is hiding after the vicious attack that left her wounded in Tucson, and six other people dead. She has already defied the odds many times over.. understanding the questions she's asked.. speaking normally now.. tapping her hands or singing to music she likes.. so why wouldn't you want show the world that this madman could not take her life, or her spirit?
If I had survived this kind of cowardly shooting attack, that I not only survived but returned to a nearly normal life, I would want to shout it out from the rooftops that the gunman is going to prison, while I'm going to live! I know this is largely a question of medical and family privacy. But am I wrong? rh
