Details are being worked out on Topeka's official remembrance of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and the plans are coming together beautifully, and very quickly.
I want to personally invite you to join the large crowd we're expecting on the grounds of the National Guard Museum at Forbes Field, on Sunday, September 11th, at 1:00pm. Governor Sam Brownback and Senator Pat Roberts quickly accepted the local organization's invitation to give keynote speeches.
There will be plenty of red, white and blue and precision performances in a ceremony that is not primarily military. Topeka's commemoration will actually serve as a tribute to first responders: firefighters, paramedics and police officers helping remember their fallen colleagues who died at the World Trade Center, or the Pentagon on that tragic day.
T-shirts will help you remember the occasion, with donations from the shirts and checks from Northeast Kansans directly benefitting the 9/11 National Memorial and Museum in New York City. Capitol Federal, CoreFirst, and Vision Banks are joining in the sponsorship of the event, and helping Topeka write one big check from our community to assist in the Memorial effort nationwide.
It'll be quite an occasion, and a very fitting tribute to the meaning of that day. I hope you can be with us at Forbes Field on 9/11. Ralph
