Since I love this station so much, and it has been such an enormous part of my life and my career, I always celebrate November 15th.  That's the day we first came on the air in 1953.  Channel 13 was owned by the Capper Group, they of Senator Arthur Capper fame, the man who was honored again this year as of our most distinguished Kansans.

WIBW-TV came on the air about 12:45 that afternoon, with a test pattern and a quick presentation by our new station manager and some of the Capper TV managers.  By 1:00, they turned it over to the old Dumont network to show the 49ers-Browns game, our first show ever on WIBW.

From that moment on, Channel 13 committed itself to the state's political process through our late GM Thad Sandstrom.  He took the reins in 1957 when we became a Stauffer station.  And through our current GM Jim Ogle, the WIBW Channels as we're known now.. have committed ourselves to the best, most solid news reporting and community participation to all causes and organizations.
