Are Foreign Countries Too Dangerous for Our Students?

From Ralph Hipp

Amanda Knox convicted and imprisoned in Italy.  After two years behind bars, she is finally on her way home today, freed for a crime even the DNA experts say she did not commit.  She was sent to prison in the slaying of her British roommate, Meredith Kercher.

Josh Fittal finally released from a prison in Iran, along with his hiking buddy.  They're joining Samantha Shourd, so Shourd and Fittal can plan their wedding.  Samantha was jailed in Iran as well.  All three insisted they were on a hiking trip.  Iran said they were walking into their country as spies.

And of course, Natalee Holloway is still missing in Aruba.

Kansans still sadly recall the case of the shooting death of 16-year old McLouth student Justin Johnston, who left his hotel room too late at night in Costa Rica, and was shot by a security guard last June 3rd.

KU still remembers Shannon Martin's stabbing death for her T-shirt 10 years ago, as she left a Costa Rican bar during her grad studies in botany.

Parents, we need to all be aware.. our children studying abroad or planning big trips to foreign countries can be deadly.

Share your thoughts on any or all of these cases, and think about my main question of the day.. are some of our best and brightest, or the kids who deserve to be.. in countries who wish Americans harm and ill will?
