My daughter says she would have loved growing up in the 60s (I know I did, even with its tragedies and triumphs.. it was an amazing decade.) Folks slightly older than me probably had a happier experience growing up in the 50s, during the days of Eisenhower and Elvis. The 70s may be remembered for Nixon and Watergate, the 80s for Reagan and the final days of Communism.. and then we rolled into the 90s with the Clintons, Monica Lewinsky and a fired up economy that was on its way to catastrophe.
Time Magazine's cover last week featured a crying baby with the title "The Decade from Hell." And actually, with 9/11, the wars and recessions, no matter how it's been for you.. it's been one hell of decade.
But what do we call it? How do we describe it to our grandchildren? The zeroes, the naughts, the nothings? Unlike those decades we could call out by number, there doesn't appear to be a good number we can use to describe these past ten years. Your suggestions please! and while you're at it, tell me what you will remember.. or forget.. about it! Ralph
