I've learned a little bit more about this NFL blackout business now that the Chiefs have flirted with it twice this month. And what I found out last Friday was WIBW does NOT get another NFL game if the Chiefs game is ever blacked out in our markets. Kansas City hasn't had a game blacked out since 1990, my 1st year with Channel 13. J.B. reported tonight that it was actually KCTV-5 and their new manager, Robert Totsch, who saved the day and bought the remaining tickets to the Buffalo Bills game, along with lots of fans of course. Now there are at least 5,000 tickets left for what could be a miserable matchup with the Cleveland Browns. (The Browns were busy Tuesday talking with Mike Holmgren, he of the Packers and the Seahawks, to resurrect their football operation.) So this time folks, we really could be banned from showing the final Chiefs home game of the season on Channel 13 this week.
So what else would you like to see? The WIBW Sunday Afternoon Movie?? Been a while since we've had one of those. The longtime WIBW veteran who directs Midday in Kansas, Randy Kahle, would probably join me in voting for "Gone With the Wind" as our three-hour movie to show at noon this Sunday. I would totally watch that again. Matt Blanchette wants "Avatar," but heck that's just in the theatres.. Nice thought, however.. Let me know which movie would be fun to watch INSTEAD of the Chiefs this weekend!! Ralph
