We hoped Tuesday's turnout would exceed 30%, what with the controversial sales tax hike for Topeka, and some fairly captivating council races. The council's still in the process of being re-made, after criticism that its split down the middle is hampering progress for Topeka. As we come to the end of a long campaign for all, here are some personal thoughts on the people we met along the way.
Randall Trackwell, Jason Dabney: Don't run for mayor unless you're serious about it.
Bob Percival, David Brown: Don't run for council unless you're serious about it.
Jon-Wesley O'Hara: Charisma with a ponytail? He's running again in 2011 in District 4.
Karen Hiller, Larry Wolgast: You won't find anyone with better community resumes than these new council members. Enjoy Tuesday night.. you've earned it.
Lisa Stubbs: If she's a winner Friday in District 7, I think she'll consider a run for mayor.
Bob Archer: If he's not the winner in District 7, he could qualify as a well-trained team building city manager.
Ellen Ross: She's a good lady, lots of fun.
Roy Groves: One hell of a storyteller.
Richard Harmon: Happy he faced only a minor challenge to retain his seat. Now he's the only lawyer on the council.
Bill Bunten: Mayor, I said it at 4 and will say it again. We hope to cover your 100th birthday party, and best wishes as our mayor until you're 83, or beyond.
