We're expecting about a 30% voter turnout for today's elections in Shawnee County. My bet is the issue that'll get Topeka to 30% turnout (or higher) is the sales tax increase. If you're voting, you know about the issue. Here are the main points:
* Many voters are concerned that if that tax hike is approved, the city will collect far more money than needed to fix our streets.
* The top civic organizations say there has to be a funding source to fix those streets, so Topeka will look more attractive to potential business owners who may consider locating here.
* Some voters worry if the tax is voted down tonight, they're property taxes are going up tomorrow.
Where are you on all this? Let me know if you voted 'yes' or 'no' today, and why. We look forward to reading your 'exit polling' information to us! Be sure to watch the votes counted tonight on WIBW-TV starting with our 9:00 coverage on MyTV. Ralph
