Week One: Sizing Up the Chiefs

By Ralph Hipp

Chiefs have put their first pre-season game in the books.. it began as a low scoring affair in Atlanta during the time the storms were rocking us here in Kansas.  All the action was definitely over here with the weather!

When the weather calmed down, the pace of the game picked up.. with Atlanta taking the win, 20-10.

Todd Haley's sophomore squad still has serious trouble on offense; points were hard to come by for the Chiefs and the Falcons.  The 3-in a row missed field goals said a lot about this game.  So did the Chiefs winding up at the 2 as time expired in the first half.  (Shades of the St. Louis-Tennessee Super Bowl.)  Number 22 is certainly one of the bright spots I saw.. In visiting the Chiefs camp in St. Joseph last Friday, a week before the exhibition matchup, I sure took a liking to Dexter McCluster.  Converted to a tailback, he showed off his speed on two sidelines runs.  I think he's got a very bright future in the NFL, and am so glad we have him on our team, Eric Berry, too.

It was good seeing Kerry Meier, and happy to see something good happening for him after Dylan's loss last spring.  Also good to see Trey Lewis of the Ichabods in his Falcons uniform again this pre-season.

Size up the game for us, and we'll get ready for the next one Saturday night against Josh Freeman and the Tampa Bay Bucs.  Look forward to reading your post-game analysis!    Ralph
