Scott Pioli's wrapping up his first week on the job as Chiefs GM. To his credit.. a couple of things.. he didn't come right in and clean house (sometimes you need to stop and take stock of what's going before swinging the ax) and another thing.. Pioli appears to be waiting for the Chiefs coaches to quit before he fires them (like Gunther Cunningham Wednesday, leaving for the worst team in the NFL) so at least they'll have jobs in this lousy employment market.
But that coaching merry-go-round in the NFL is a different job market. They just live in their circle and move around from place to the next. Really, though folks, how come coaches like Mike Shanahan and John Gruden are dumped while Herm is 2-23 in his last 25 games at KC? Look around and your seeing guys like Ken Whisenhunt and Mike Tomlin taking their teams right to the Super Bowl with no waiting. We're moving into a new generation of NFL coaches who are not only expecting results, but producing them. So are the Chiefs giving Herm time to look around for something else, and just being nice? Herm is a guy who's let the game pass him by, and the Chiefs just need to face that reality. Soon. RH
