I've driven by that big Lawrence Service Center on the Kansas Turnpike many times. I don't believe I've ever stopped there, even for McDonald's.. but I'll miss the place. It's being leveled to make room for an even larger area of stores, still owned by the EZ Go company. (The Mickey D's will remain on the scene.) But, hey don't forget, if you're driving from Topeka to KC on the Pike, fill up at the Topeka service area, cuz the Lawrence rest stop just east of the Douglas County line has no fuel pumps until the 4th of July holiday.
Actually, you'd find my favorite gas station on the extreme east side of Lawrence on 23rd. It's the QuikTrip as you head out of town toward Eudora. They have everything! All kinds of winter car accessories, maps, newspapers, great lunches, hot coffee, iced coffee, hot snacks for a buck and tons of scratch-off lottery tickets. No other place comes close. There are tons of them in Kansas City, but not one here in Topeka. We'd love to have a QT here.
What's your favorite gas station? And don't say the Lawrence service area, until you see the new place open this summer! RH
