What was your reaction when you heard Bill Snyder was coming back to K-State? Actually, in one our soundbites on J.B.'s sports Monday night, Snyder said his hiring was in print in the papers before he'd made up his mind!! Was your reaction.. WOW? WHY? THIS IS GREAT! ARE THEY CRAZY?? We heard all this reaction and more. After being away from the game for three seasons, the man who's headed Governor Sebelius' mentoring program is taking the job of mentoring to a stratospheric level.
With a good chance the Governor will be departing, Bill Snyder's new cause won't have a political leader. But he can put his coaching and mentoring skills to even better use! He will mentor Josh Freeman to get him ready for the NFL's level of play. Teach Josh to keep the ball close to his body.. raise his release point of throwing the ball.. and get him in top shape by running the steps like every other Wildcat player after accusations that he was coddled by Ron Prince. The lessons Josh is about to learn from Bill Snyder will serve him well the rest of his career, and the rest of his life. If Josh stays..
What goes for Josh will go for the whole team, too.
Bill Snyder can be a mentor to Kansas State's next president. Show the prez the ropes after Jon Wefald departs this summer.. help him or her secure the big connections they'll need in Manhattan and Topeka to help K-State the most.
Coach Snyder is also going to be called on to mentor his successor. I had originally thought Snyder would be comfortable in a Coach Tom Osborne type of role. Coach Osborne left coaching, ran for political office and won a Congressional seat.. Then he also came home to Nebraska to run the entire athletic department and have the good sense to hire Greg Sharpe as the Huskers announcer (and, oh yeah, Bo Pelini as coach.) But being the solid guy Bill Snyder is.. he wants to return to the trenches and coach again until he's 74, under terms of his 5-year contract. Along with this, Snyder will be leading the search committee for the Wildcats NEXT coach, and mentor HIM on how it's done on the field.
So, do you agree with me? Bill Snyder is not only the coach, but will be the ultimate mentor K-State needs to return to the prominence the Wildcats enjoyed.. well.. under Bill Snyder. Ralph
