Before I get into this rant, let me take you back to the Reagan years. If you watched all the CNN and FOX-umentaries on John McCain, Barack Obama, Sarah Palin and Joe Biden (and I sure hope you have.. they're all very informative..) take a close look at the story of Joe Biden and his role in sinking the nomination of Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork. With increasing concerns over Bork's politics and qualifications, his nomination was voted down in no small part due to the role of Senator Biden's leadership in the Senate Judiciary Committee. It's well known that when a nominee is sent down to defeat by character assassination, that person has been "Borked."
The local version of that word is to be "Torrenced." So would that mean the city council began such a flurry of condemnation against Carol Torrence, that they voted down her nomination to sit on the Planning Commission? The hue and cry is "just for that.. the Planning Commission??" When someone is "borked" or "torrenced," it creates a ripple effect which we're already seeing. Topekans who may have been interested in helping the city plan its growth, are running for the hills because they don't to be investigated or have their character or qualifications for the job called into question.
Don't tell me Topeka's getting as bad as Washington on nominees for higher positions! That couldn't be happening here, right? RH
