Man, that new Topeka Boulevard Bridge is LOOKING GREAT!  Here's what the city told us about the bridge's official opening on Sunday, August 3rd.

"The City of Topeka invites you to become part of history in the making.  The Grand Opening Celebration is nearly two years in the making and will bring together many people who have been involved in this project.  The event will held from 4-10pm, with a ribbon cutting at 5:00pm.  During the celebration, the bridge will be open to pedestrian traffic only.  At about 4:30pm, attendees will be asked to assemble at either the north or south side and will march to the center of the bridge.  (It will be about a 10-minute walk), joining both sides together for a brief ceremony."

"Streets surrounding the bridge will be closed for the celebration beginning at 4pm.  On the south side of the bridge, Topeka Boulevard will be closed at Third Street, and on the north side, Gordon and Morris will also be closed.  The bridge is anticipated to open to vehicle traffic at 6:00am on Monday, August 4th."

Has your life been changed during the past two years that the bridge has been shut down?  Tell us how excited you are that the bridge is about to re-open.. and tell us if you're planning on being one of the first people to march across!    Ralph

I attended the opening of the new Topeka Ave. bridge in 1938, I was 10 years old. I wanted so badly to go yesterday, but it was just to hot for me to be out. I remember walking (we didn't have a car) to the bridge to watch the streamliner come down the tracks with the big headlight showing the way. What fun for a 10 year old!

The opening of this structure greatly enhances the ability of our medical clinic to more efficiently serve the many who use it. Instructions on locating American Medical Exams will be both easier to give and will save gas for those who seek our services. I plan on being present for the dedication ceremony. Pleased it is open!

I cant wait I live on the north side and I drive threw town all the time. It will be nice to have 2 bridges to deal with all the people driving versus one.

Thank goodness the bridge is almost done, my barber shop is at the north end of the bridge.
