Tell Me Something Good

Boy, I'll tell ya, the negative list of recent events is outweighing the positive.

NEGATIVE

Manhattan, Chapman tornado damage.. K-State heavily damaged.. two of our neighbors are dead.

Iowa Flooding Making its way Downriver

Gas is $4 a gallon.. no relief in sight.

Tim Russert Dies at his Desk.

Maybe the only POSITIVE is Boston Celtics win NBA Championship, Paul Pierce named MVP!

Can you please tell me something good?  Does everything lately have to be another disaster?  I need more stuff in my POSITIVE LIST.

During one of our recent storms I was in the Walmart on Wanamaker, when it was announced overhead that a tornado was sighted not too far away, had touched down. There is nothing in this world that I fear as much as I fear tornadoes...(I am not a native Kansan!) I was terrified, and was quite visibly shaken, apparently, because several people in our group taking shelter by the dressing rooms approached me and had friendly words for me and even some pats on the back and a hug! In a time where all you hear is news of sadness and tragedy, it brought to light just how GOOD people generally are at heart. I am excited that people would go to that length to comfort a stranger, and Topeka should be proud of its citizens for such small but meaningful kindnesses.

Something good..the crew at WIBW! I moved here from Oklahoma 8 months ago and WIBW became the only news channel I watch. You keep me informed on all news, and with the web site I am able to keep watching if my cable goes out during storms. Keep up the good work!!

All the good things people have mentioned make me happy. It's nice to see that there is still some good. Keep smiling, Ralph. Not everything is bad yet.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Danielle and everyone else in Chapman. I agree with JH from Topeka, it's great to see Danielle's spirit.

Ralph, Positive is hard to comeby these days. I however am positive that no matter how bad the news is, You and Melissa will be there for us. That makes me happy, just to know that the WIBW team is there for us. Thank you kind Sir.

JH- Thank you so much! I feel blessed to have been able to do good, to have been able to help those in need. That makes my job worth the blood, sweat and tears. God knew what he wanted me to do, I was just fortunate enough to realize it.

Posted by: Tim Getting togeather with past classmates for our 30th class reunion at Santa Fe Trail. Yes that will seem along time ago, but I am looking forward to see and visit all! Can't wait!

The Kansas City Royals are on a 5 game win streak, taking 2 of 3 from the Arizona Diamondbacks and then sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals. Go Royals!

So wonderful to see that the helpful spirit is alive and well in Kansas these days as so many volunteers have come to the rescue of others during and after the recent storms. There truly are heros and angels among us. Danielle from Chapman who made the comment that "Life is good" certainly hit the nail on the head, and it's because of people like her that life IS so good.....hats off to you, Danielle!

I saved two lives the night of the Chapman tornado. Then I aided a woman in giving birth two days later. Life is good, Ralph.

Thank God everyday for the blessings in your life. "I used to complain because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet". That was a saying on the wall at my grandmother's house for many years. It's easier to see the negatives than remember the positives.

Today (6/19) is my 25th birthday and my family back in Iowa is finally able to get back into the fields to finish the planting, weather permitting. Here's to sunshine and no rain for a few weeks!

Ralph, years ago I received over 100 boxes of letters, pictures, etc. from my grandmother. I thought I'd been through all of them but recently came across a man's shoe box (from the size of it) that had recipes in it, or so I thought. I found an almanac from 1826 in there!!! And, it is in good condition. There are other almanacs in it but none that old. My grandmother was born in 1881 so that had to be from her mother or her husband's family. I've found a lot of surprises going through her stuff and it is always so much fun. What can be found in the attic of your grandmother's home or some other elderly family member. I'd like to take this chance to tell other readers, don't through out those boxes too fast. Take time to run through them and behind old frames. I found my same grandmother's high school diploma in one large frame dated in 1898!!! Hope this will bring you a smile, Ralph. You always have such a sunny smile on the newscasts. Thanks for all the hard work you do.

The company I work for is going to 4 days a week 10 hours a day in order to save money and I now have Fridays off. I think that is really good.
