One of the fun parts of my job, the part that takes up most of my time here at the station, is booking guests for 13 NEWS AT 4. We invite 2 or 3 guests (or groups of guests) on our program every weekday. In tracking a prominent Topeka businessman who's heading our United Way effort this year, I had to begin by talking with the wife of one of our WIBW employees. She works with the guest I have in mind. So I reminded myself.. I have GOT to e-mail my co-worker to set that up. It never even crossed my mind that I could actually walk down the hall and talk to him! Man, was that a reality check! Whaddya think? Are we so wrapped up in our screens that we've given up on talking to the people we work with? Maybe e-mails a great way to avoid talking to the people at the office that we don't want to talk to.
(By the way, I did talk to my colleague here at the station, and chatted with the guest we wanted. He'll come over to visit me next Friday. He actually told me so. I'll e-mail him later.)
