SNAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

Hey There!

If I wasn't awake this morning I certainly was after this "incident."  Monday mornings are always groggy because I work late on Sundays and the turn around always comes too fast.  I grabbed my purse and my work bag and headed out the door.  I got as far as the first step when something caught my eye.  I jumped away ... saw that it was a snake... and screamed so loud and shrill I probably shook the house.  It was slimy and green and on the front stoop to my back door.  I could have stepped on him!  If you haven't already noticed, I am TERRIFIED OF SNAKES.  Shuddering, I decided there was nothing I could do at that moment to get rid of the thing so I headed to work.  The next call I plan to make is to the exterminator.  He may not kill the snake but perhaps he knows someone who will!  Eeek! I shudder just thinking about it.  He was probably just a garden snake but somehow, that just doesn't matter.

I was raised (and still live on) a farm. I always jump when I see a snake also. If it looked liek the one in your picture, don't worry about it. In fact, you may want to keep it around. My great-grandfather made the mistake of killing all the snakes in his garden (bull snakes and black snakes which are non-poisonous like the one in the picture) then the rattlesnakes (poisonous) moved in. He never was able to get all of them killed and regretted killing the others. As a general rule, if they have a small, round head, they are non poisonous, but if they have flat triangular heads, they are poisonous and those are often more agressive. I have only enoucntered 1 aggressive non-poisonous snake and that was while cleaning out a plugged overflow pipe on a pond. I was lucky I did not get bit and when the snake came out with the rest of the trash, it really made me jump because I was reaching up there with my hand before I went home and got the toilet auger!

Posted by: Laurie SO where do you get this dried cows blood? And when you say you "put it around your house" do you mean the outside your house? If so would'nt the rain wash it away?

Posted by: Mr. N Snakes are like roaches if you see one that means there's more around.

Posted by: Derek Ill pass on that Crows blood idea on here. Id rather find a snake or rodent rather than mess with a dead birds blood.

I agree Rae Chelle. I stepped on a snake when I was younger, of course I was not wearing shoes. As you can imagine, it scared me and to this day, I am as well..TERRIFIED OF SNAKES. Hope you get rid of your unwanted guest.

I would catch him/her for you, but that is a long drive!! You might want to check for any holes down around your steps. This guy/gal has a hiding place there that is very cool right now!! Obviously, this snake scared the whoopies out of you, so I won't say any more! :)

I can sympathize with you. A good snake is a DEAD snake. I know they are good at what they do, but I do not want the around.

Raechelle, Snakes aren't slimey. He was most likely sunny himself. He was a garden snake I am sure. I hope no one kills him that the just relocate him. You probably scared him as much as he did you.

Reply: I think he was a garden snake and when I find someone to take care of him I will ask them to take him away but not kill him. I have a heart but I don't ever want to see him again!

Have you tried to put dried cows blood around your house? I put it around my car and it keeps the mice, rats, and snakes out from climbing in it. I also put it in my garage to keep those vermon and snake demons away. It's like 8 bucks for a 5 pound bag- but totatlly worth it!
