Back in my day, we had two choices for baseball bats.....maple or ash.  Not so anymore.

My nephews love to play, so we let one pick out a bat for his birthday in April.  The oldest nephew's  b-day isn't until August, so my wife suggested we let him get a bat early.  Besides, he keeps saying his current bat has no "pop."  What is "pop?"  I wasn't sure, but apparently it is expensive.

A quick run to the sporting goods store and we had it.  It took him all of three minutes (he had been researching bats on the internet,so he knew exactly what he wanted).

I've never seen him, or any 15-year old for that matter, pass up a meal.  But that is exactly what he did.  "I wanna get home and try it out in the cage," he said.

He got his first chance to use it in a game last night.......and now he has "pop".

Here's a look at his first high school home run......I hope the shot didn't use up all of the "pop."  Uncle Doug can only afford one bat a year.
