Nobody gets any work done. Every year, some University researcher, with tons of grant money, comes up with the theory that when March Madness begins, the productivity of every workplace in the U.S. decreases drastically. That same researcher will get a report published in the New York Times that the United States business community will lose millions of dollars in productivity until the Final Four is over. In my many years in TV News, I don't think I've ever noticed that. In fact, people I work with seem to perk up; get more excited than they usually are; pick winners based on uniform colors, or mascots; get to work earlier to see the start of the early game. In other words, it's more fun. Anybody feel like me, or do you agree with the Madness critics? One final note, if productivity disappears during March Madness, maybe our bosses should just let us take a week off and come back more productive than when we left..
