Last summer, I wrote about an adventure that would take me off a few newscasts for awhile when I served as an amabassador for the United Way campaign. Today, I'm ready to begin another such adventure. I've been selected for the 2011 Leadership Greater Topeka Class.
The LGT program brings together people of various backgrounds. We learn the challenges facing our community, then are challenged and motivated to get involved in finding solutions. According to the description, we'll get a closer understanding of the issues at hand, learn who the key players are and develop skills to influence those key players, or, at least, be heard.
What does that all mean? Well, I'm about to find out! Our orientation is Tuesday, with a retreat in late January and seven, day-long sessions from February thru early May. I'm looking forward to this chance to learn more about the Topeka community and sharing what I learn with you. Of course, it's all about discussion, too, so let's discuss! Begin by sharing with me what YOU see as the major challenges facing our community. I'll see what answers I can find!
