One downside to being out of town last weekend was missing one of my favorite events of the year in Topeka, "Evening as a Child." It's a fundraiser for Easter Seals Capper Foundation, an organization which helps children with disabilities lead more independent lives.
I was able to participate in the event, however, by sharing the story of Alex. The almost-six-year old has been receiving services at Capper since before age two. Through physical, occupational and speech therapy, Alex is now able to use a special walker to get around for some of the time and you can see he is understanding and interacting with the world around him. Even more, he has the best advocated in the world in his big brother, Brandon.
You can learn more about Easter Seals Capper Foundation at www.capper.easterseals.com. You can hear Alex' story by watching the video. You'll be inspired!
